KNUST SRC meets over surcharging of students for damages

KNUST Students vandalized a security post

The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology(KNUST) is billed to hold a meeting later today over government’s decision to surcharge students after the massive destruction of properties at the KNUST.

About 1.6 million Ghana Cedis is estimated as the cost of damage during students riots at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, officials say.

This according to authorities excludes stolen and looted items by the students when they went on rampage.

Education Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh has said students would have to brace themselves to bear the full cost of the damages.

The Public Relations Officer of the KNUST SRC, Maxwell Asante has told newsmen that a decision would be taken after a meeting over the matter today.
