Needy-but-brilliant students to benefit from Standard Chattered Endowment Fund

31 needy but brilliant students are set to benefit from a scholarship scheme awarded by Standard Chartered Bank Ghana Limited. The awardees are students who have gained admission to some public universities in the country namely; the University of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University College of Education, Winneba (UCEW), University of Development Studies (UDS) and University of Cape Coast (UCC).

The scholarship scheme is being spearheaded with GH¢71,000 from a total amount of GH¢300,000 which will span over a period of four years. The scholarship award covers both tuition and accommodation. Speaking to the recipients, Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank Ghana Limited, Mrs. Mansa Nettey said that her outfit is committed to helping students access quality education, hence the scholarship scheme.
She advised the students to make the most of their academic and social lives, emphasizing strongly on the need for them to mostly prioritize their education in order to take advantage of such scholarship opportunities. She said;

My father always said university is the last place that ushers you into life. You can have fun but make sure you take your education serious. Learn as much as you can to take advantage of such opportunities. Use the opportunity you have now and have fun later.

She added that students should know how to well balance technology and social media which she said are the main distractive things for the youth. With social media and technology, I know its distractive but know how to balance it.

Speaking to some of the students, they engaged as such;

For level hundred when I came, paying of school fees was a challenge. I was non-resident also so I am very happy to be selected by Standard Chartered Bank. I want to thank the Almighty God and Standard Chartered Bank for this opportunity , I’m really grateful because the family I come from we don’t have enough I will like to thank Standard Chartered Bank for giving me this scholarship.

The students will benefit from both Standard Chartered Kenneth Dadzie Memorial Education Trust Fund which centers on Postgraduate programs; Economics and business courses and the Standard Chartered Science Education Trust Fund which focuses on Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies in science.
