The 53rd Annual Residential Congress of the National Union of Ghana Students. Happened at the Islamic University College in Accra over the weekend. The congress which was christened as the Special Unity Congress is expected to bring to an end the prolonged division in the union.
This has become necessary after several years of parallel groups assumed power and carried themselves as de facto leaders of the union. With apparent political infiltration and stated electoral disputes being the root causes for the perpetuated fractioning in the union, the Special Unity Congress is expected to arrest the situation and essentially open a new chapter for the union.
The 53rd congress is being jointly organized by the remaining factions under the leadership of Tinkaro Asare Osei and Gombilla Mohammed as co-presidents of NUGS. Isaac Jay Hyde, Ohemaa Bediako, Richmond Kodua, and Emmanuel Boakye-Yiadom are the main contenders for the top job of Presidency in NUGS.
Having been preceded by a rigorous process of reforms including the promulgation of a new constitution among others, the mother association of all Ghanaian students hopes that this becomes the much-anticipated end of the rule of division in the union.
The NATIONAL UNION OF GHANA STUDENTS’ SECRETARIAT and the Electoral Commission of Ghana’s officers supervising the elections shall strike out any/every delegate and school from voting without satisfying the regulations governing the election.
