Substandard labour would be the effects of Free SHS –Hassan Ayariga

Hassan Ayariga Founder of the All Peoples’ Congress (APC), has stated that the Free SHS program is bound to produce substandard labor for the country. Addressing party loyalists at the inter-political party resistance conference against the Electoral commission’s decision of compiling a new voter’s register, the Party leader explained that, the NPP’s flagship policy the Free SHS has led to a situation where students are being promoted from one level to the other without any criterion to check their competence and knowledge amassed.

“The worst part of the free Senior High School is that there is no repetition. They promote everybody. If you have a government that put up a free senior high school where everybody is being promoted then I bet you the next nurses and doctors we will be having will kill us instead of curing us”. Mr. Ayariga added that this will lead to the nation producing ill-trained professionals that may wreak havoc in the various sectors of the economy.

He made these assertions in an attempt to explain why it was irrelevant for the state to invest an amount of GH¢8million into compiling new voters register while the free SHS policy is faced with numerous challenges. “We don’t have that money to waste. We need money to run our campaigns and if they have enough money to waste, they should use that money…the free senior high school is in shambles (challenges, difficulties) they should channel that money and make sure our children don’t eat only gari and banku” – he added.
